Smite Cleric Viability

I always loved the concept of a smite Cleric. Is it possible to make them viable again? If so, should they?

How are they not "viable" now? Can they not kill a mob solo?

I love to play clerics and had several on live and various freeshards but I tell you this...smite cleric can be
very enjoyable and fun to play but not so much at this early patch level.
Grouping might be an adventure in itself because your either lacking heals or buffs and running 3 clerics
will make the group lose additional versatility.

So go ahead, roll a smite cleric have some fun going solo and then reroll it to heal/buff for group play ;-)

Using charplan I was looking at 49 smite, 20 enhance

This is a rather comical standard--I hope you were just being funny.

Smite clerics suffer in every dimension of their damage spells--they have poor range, poor efficiency, poor damage, and poor cast time. Mythic hated how people didn't want to play anything else (class was very popular in early game) and just f***** the spec out of existence.

better go
30 enhance, 12 heal, 43 smite
little spec heal, single insta, blue specbuffs, highest spec smite DD
(solo)

chain killing solo mobs with decent buffs till you run out of mana ;-)

or

30 heal, 12 enhance, 43 smite
decent spreadheal, grey specbuffs, highest spec smite DD
(group)

we did this, using the smiter as a third cleric. most of the time healing,
using the pbaoe mezz from time to time to delay the enemy attack
but nowadays with determination tanks almost just don't care ;-)
I don't use the aoe smite at all...not worth it, so no need to spend
49 points in smite.

Make Smite Cleric viable, i agree 100%. Spec DD with 1350 Range is just a joke. A viable single DD + Insta Aoe Stun+ Insta Single Stun and maybe a Skill that absorbs the next XXX healing on the target would be insanely cool! But i know thats never gonna happen anyways and i dont blame the Devs for it.

I'd love to see the smite line brought back from total gimpness that it is currently.

Thanes were given increased dmg and faster cast speed in line with the storm calling line on live but with better power usability already. It would be great to see the same changes made for smite clerics. Smite clerics don't dominate live because of those changes and wouldn't dominate here. I would love to see the faster cast speeds and increased damage consistent with the changes Thane's received. And the range on the smite dd's and aoe spells increased to 1500.

Would be fine with low range if the DD itself were powerful enough to be a deterrent.
