I heard that it doesn’t help vs mobs?
How about guards?

Or is it ONLY vs enemy players?

Nowhere is it mentioned that it is a PvP only RA.
I sure hope it affects Mobs

Mastery of Focus is generally increasing all spells level to a maximum of 50.
This works against Players and mobs/guards.

The higher your spelllevel is, the lower is the resistrate against that target. (i do not know the exact formula, but there is one in place)
If you are nuking with a lvl 50 spell against a lvl 50 target your resistrate should be ~10%
If you are playing as an example a runemaster. with a 47 Darkness and 26 Suppression spec.
Your maindamage spell is a lvl 47 specdd. MoF1 would be enough to increase it to lvl 50 and reach the 10% resist rate.
Is it still worth upping MoF even more for that said Runemaster? Yes it is. Since your Nearsight of the Suppression line is just a lvl 25 spell(28 with MoF1) and therefor has a much higher resistrate.

I even have Mastery of Focus 2 on my Aughealer just to reduce the resistrate of the lvl 43 baseline Mezz.

Amnesia works better when its resisted, just saying.

not if the target is quickcasting, using MOC or simply has almost finished the cast

It works by literally increasing your spell levels up to 50 (max). However guards can still be orange / red / purple (like mobs) aka higher than lvl 50, so you will still see resists vs them but less than if you had no MoF (for example Necro power vacuum is lvl 44, you need MoF 2 to bring it to lvl 50).

Hope it helps.

On short: totally worth it at least 2 points for any caster that has important spells to land.

Just to make sure I understand the mechanics, if I have body spec 40+13, and use the level 35 spec body nuke, I would need to spec MoF 5 to get to 10% resist? Or am I capped already due to 40+13>50?

+skills from gear and realm rank have absolutely nothing to do with resists, only damage calculations.

And yes, to get your level 35 nuke to hit at the same rate as a level 50, you would need five levels of Mastery of Focus, though I'm not sure why you want to use a slower-caster softer-hitting spell.

Mana cost?

Possibly.

I can see it being worthwhile in PvE I guess.

Effective spell level = (Spell level + char level) / 2 + MoFocus
Cannot exceed 50 as result.

Example: Spell from level 43 on a lvl 50 char.

(43 + 50) / 2 = 46
[Afaik it's rounded down] Requires MoFocus 2 to achieve an effective spell level of 50.

This applies to resist calculation (100% resist or hit) only.
No mana or damage calculation is affected.
