Regions

New player here. I see there are several regions to select in the launcher. Does it just want to know where I am? Or are there several servers to choose from?
The front page just says "Albion: 256 Midgard: 287 Hibernia: 304" If there are servers to choose from, is one more/less populated by certain realms?

They are just proxies protecting the main IP from being DDOS'ed , chose whichever is closer to you. There is just one main server.

Actually you don't even need to choose the closest one.
I recently had some serious lagging/ld problem with my 'closest proxy' for days,
and changing it to another proxy just solved it.
