every transfer requires a offer on the other side...
there's not really much of an "idea" that would help

if there isn't anyone wanting to trade alb -> hib, then you can't trade from hib -> alb

you COULD try and trade from hib -> mid and then from mid -> alb....but there'S no guarantee that it would work out and you might have your money stuck in midgard then.

every transfer requires a matching offer on the other side...

Offers do not require a matching counterpart.

If you want to move 5p from hib towards mid and mids do have open orders like 1x 2p, 2x 1p and 1x 5p, then the trade will be done immediately and will leave the 5p trade order open but with 5p.
So partial trades are done too.

Including if there are not enough orders available.
So if you want to trade 10p but only 3p are available on the target realm, then the 3p will be traded and the leftover 7p once new trades gets added.

And because it's no 1:1 trade (conversion rate to respect the realms economy), it's more like a stock market.

yeah i see how i really misworded that....
with "matching" i meant someone wanting to trade in the other direction, aka when someone wants to trade from mid to hib, someone else wanting to trade from hib to mid would be the match, regardless of amounts.

But reading it again now it is quite misleading

how is the exchange rate done regarding /tradeorder

the exchange rate hasn't changed for long time so its not based on orders like any currency trade
exchange rate from mid to alb is poo considering i got 1:1.2 ratio just before this came in.....

I believe there is many alb plat waiting to transfer but there are no mid orders. should it not be the case that mid gets the better exchange rate? The same applies for hib to alb...

I'm 99% sure they said it's based on total gold created since server introduction when they implemented the command.

how does that make sense, surely it should be a supply/demand to dictate exchange rate....

A perfect system would be dynamically updating the rates according to current order/offers and how long they have not been fillled.
The problem with a flexible rate would be that people put in their trade, then it isn't filled for a long time, that changes the exchange rate, and suddenly people get the trade filled, for a much worse ratio than what they happened to put their offer up.

that would raise other complaints and not neccesarily make the system better (but it would require a lot more work to setup)

it would be really intresting to see all realms available money pools somewhere though. Aka. 6values that show the respective amounts of gold put up for trade in each realm

I suggested that in Discord already plus the actual exchange ratio plus maybe some queue to estimate when it's my turn to get my money...
