Alb is a bit dysfunctional. You'll find a lot of snobs in PvE, RvR, and unhelpful people in /advice. I can't speak for the other realms on this server.
However, the classes and general setting has always appealed to me more. And as a totally new player, I think people will be generally more kind to you if you're asking questions and willing to learn. You can also fall into some really cool people, and some really exceptional guilds, which make the experience much better. Again, can't speak for other realms but I assume that's true everywhere.
I've been debating an alt for weeks now. If you go alb, let me know and we can hook up and level together (depending on your timezone I guess).
