Re: DPS Classes PVE/RVR

This is a tricky question because it really depends on what the group leader is thinking. If it is a leveling group something like a Mind Sorc, Matter Cabalist, or 2H Armsman could fit the bill, as the barrier to usefulness is pretty low.

RvR PUGs will likely be far more stringent and would likely only be talking about classes that are specifically geared towards DPS like a Mercenary. Most classes have additional jobs along with providing DPS so it is tricky to determine what is being asked for when someone just says "DPS" to the point where it might even be an indictment on that particular GL's ability to communicate.

If we are speaking in super general terms DPS would mean the following: Mercenary, Fire/Ice Wizard, Air Theurgist, Body Sorc, Body Cabalist, Reaver. With a secondary tier of stuff like Matter Cabalist, Sorcerer, and Armsman. I suppose Friar, Smite Cleric, and Paladin could be a theoretical third tier.

Message the group leader and ask if they'll accept your class/spec.

What do you think it would take for archers to be chosen for PUG rvr dps spots?

Edit: and pve instances?

A complete rework would be needed for archers to be included in RvR groups.

Theoretically it would be fairly easy to give archers mechanics to make them more desirable in PvE that wouldn't affect RvR. Unfortunately, I'm fairly certain those types of changes would be looked at as "taking slots away" from already popular classes rather than "giving archers a chance to participate".

There is room for archers in any BG group, people telling you otherwise are idiots.

As for an 8v8 group? There's room, but it'll take convincing, and it's suboptimal.

Re: DPS Classes PVE/RVR

The consensus for RvR is:
DPS class means people on the Assist (/macro ASSIST /assist <name>

Exceptions:
If you are playing Armsman in a caster group, you are not a DPS, you are guardbot/peel but you also have to assist when needed to land 2 polearms style to down a target fast.

The debuffer will be the one to call the assist since he will debuff the target to be killed (magic damage)

For PvE (Darkspire)
The main DPS are Reaver/Theurg/Necro/Cabalist
If you run only one necro in the group he wont be able to dps as the primary role of the necro is to debuff and be power battery (give mana to other group member and leech mana off of the mobs)
You can also run other dps classes which are not optimal: Mercenary, Infiltrator, Armsman, Scout, Wizard
